Who is a Creative Person? The Answer Might Surprise You

Lean in. I want to tell you something.

Ready?

You are creative.

Yep. You.

Did you know that?

And I hear you (yep...through the computer. I have special powers...). Just kidding. But seriously, I know that some of you are arguing with me. "Ashleigh, I can't draw. I can't paint. I can't...I can't...I can't..."

But, what if I told you creativity was more than that?

Best Definition of Creativity

This pretty awesome article from Psychology Today defines creativity as "the ability to discover new and original ideas, connections, and solutions to problems." (It's a great article, I totally recommend it.)

You can solve a problem. Maybe not all the problems. (Hit me up if you can. I've got a few for you.)

Describe a Creative Person

The folks at Psychology Today go on to say that

"life requires daily acts of ingenuity and novel workarounds; in this sense, almost everyone possesses some amount of creativity."

And here's the biggie.

They assert that "all sorts of people, possessing various levels of intelligence and natural ability, are capable of engaging in fulfilling creative processes. And buying into a limited definition of creativity prevents many from appreciating their own potential."

Oh man. This hurts my heart.

You are unique. You have a perspective and experience unlike anyone else's. What you have to contribute matters. You were made specifically. You are special. You are valuable.

And embracing your creativity, your unique voice is a way that we believe you can share your specialness with your loved ones, your community, the world, and with yourself. Don't put your light under a bushel.

So, we're going to shout it from the mountaintops.

Yes. You are creative. You are a creative person. And your creative voice matters.

Becoming a Creative Person

Still not convinced?

The Psychology Today people even say that

"Creativity can be acquired and honed at any age or experience level."

We agree. Creativity is like a muscle. It gets stronger when you exercise it.
Here at Makeorium, we believe that everyone is creative. (Seriously, check out our core beliefs.) Specifically, we believe that people were created in the image of a creative God, so, just by your human nature, you're creative.

We think creativity is pretty special. (I mean we said the word a whole bunch just in this post.) And we think you are, too. We're here to help you nurture your innate creativity.

Sound like your jam? We'd love if you'd join our newsletter so we can stay in touch. Let's exercise that muscle together.

Not on board yet?

Here's another great article from Psychology Today on Everyday Creativity that sums it all up with this gem:

"The first step to increasing your creativity quotient is believing you can."
